About Us
Summit Public Art (SPA) is a volunteer-based city organization whose mission is to bring art to public spaces throughout Summit. Our vision is to enhance the cityscape, infusing it with contemporary art installations that provide art experiences to those who live, work in, and visit Summit. We believe that art experiences enrich the quality of life, along with creating community ties and enhancing community pride.
Since 2002, SPA has installed over 110 pieces of temporary art throughout the community. The artists represented include many of national and international renown. The SPA committee has also sponsored and facilitated nine permanent installations including Summit Beacon at City Hall, Mama Bear and Cub on the Village Green, and the Silver Sentinel tree that welcomes people entering the City via Broad Street.
Although it is a city entity, SPA is a non-profit organization that receives no funding from the city for installations or operations. It raises money through individual donations, public and private grants and corporate sponsorships. Friends of Summit Public Art is the organization’s 501(c)(3) charitable fundraising entity.
